Man held on charge of killing wife in Helsinki

The Helsinki police suspect a man for the murder of his wife at a private residence at Mellunkylä in Helsinki, police said.

The suspected murder took place about a month and half ago.

The suspect fled the country after the incident and returned about a month and half later, said Teemu Kruskopf of Helsinki detective police.

According to Kruskopf, the police were in contact with the suspect throughout the time he was abroad.

Following his return, the man was remanded as the charges were being pressed. It is during the pre-trial investigation that the crime was deemed murder.

The case progressed this week to prosecution. The police would not divulge details on the matter since the case is still under the consideration of charges.

The police also revealed that they did not divulge details during the pre-trial investigations since it could have jeopardized the investigation progress.
