A no-deal Brexit situation will affect the eligibility of British driver's license in Finland, said Finnish Transport and Communication Agency Ficora (Ficora).

Ficora has advised holders of British driver's license to replace them with Finnish driver's license before end of March in order to safeguard their driving rights in the country.

Ficora has compiled information on the impact of communication and transport.

In Finland and other European Union countries, a possible no-deal Brexit will affect the validity of driver's license issued in Great Britain and Northern Ireland

According to Ficora's development manager Päivi Wood, replacements must be made now especially if it concerns the right to drive heavy duty vehicles. After a possible Brexit, driver's license issued in the UK will be classified as those for the third countries whereby license are issued by the contracting states. This means for example, a new examination would be needed for holders of licenses to drive trucks and buses, said Wood.

EU citizens can replace their driver's license by presenting the old valid driver's license, identity card and two photos.
