The growth in the population of wild boars seems to have declined, according to the Natural Resources Institute-Luke.
The current population of wild boars is estimated to be between 1500 and 2650.The population of wild boars is assessed to have fallen by almost a third.
The population of the animal was estimated to be between 2100 and 5450 in the previous count.
According to observations made in connection with deer hunting in the year 2018, areas most frequented by wild boars are in eastern Uusimaa and Southeast Finland.
Luke, however, pointed out that there is uncertainty with regard to the population of the animal. Luke linked the reduction of the population to hunting, cross-border migration and possible estimation of the animal population at the higher end during last year’s count.
