The Helsinki District Court on Friday sentenced the bankrupt mining company Talvivaara’s former Chief Executive Officer Pekka Perä to an eight months suspended imprisonment and fine for providing false and misleading information about nickel production forecasts, national broadcaster Yle reported.

The other defendants, former CEO of the Company Harri Natunen and the Company's former Deputy CEO Saila Miettinen-Lähde were also given fines.

The Court ordered the Company to 50000 EUR corporate fines, which according to the Company is, however, considered restructuring debt, said a Talvivaara press release.

The Company and the defendants continue assessing the ruling and its merits, and it is likely that the handling of the case will continue at the Helsinki Court of Appeals.

In addition, the Helsinki District Court also gave a suspended sentence to a member of the Company's Executive Committee on the misuse of inside information. The Company was not involved in the matter.
