Denial-of-service attacks snap Kela services

The online services of the national social insurance agency (Kela) were disrupted due to denial-of-service attacks during the weekend, reported the national broadcaster Yle.

Kela, however, said the electronic prescription system could remain undisrupted, even if a complete IT-service shutdown countrywide.

A series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) crashed some of the online services of Kela on Friday and Saturday, Kela sources said.

The online services suffered disruptions for two and a half hours on Friday evening and about four hours on Saturday.

Kela said the attacks might have been made from abroad.

The disruptions hampered customers’ access to the Kanta.fi, Omakanta, and Kelain online services. So, for instances, patients could not access their electronic prescriptions, said the Yle report.
