Ex US skier Vonn wins Princess of Asturias Award

According to the information from Princess of Asturias Foundation, former US skier Lindsey Vonn has been given Spain's Princess of Asturias Award.

The US skiing star has 82 World Cup victories and is women's world record holder. She is also the Olympic downhill champion in 2010, a double world champion and created her own foundation to promote the empowerment of young women.

The 34-year-old retired from skiing at this year's world championships due to a series of injuries.

The previous winners of the award include former Formula One driver Michael Schumacher in 2007, runner Haile Gebrselassie in 2011 and golfer Jose Maria Olazabal in 2013.
