Former England and Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney will join English Championship side Derby County next year, the club announced on Tuesday.
The club said that Rooney will arrive in January 2020 from Major League Soccer outfit DC United on an initial 18-month contract until the summer of 2021, with the option of a further year.
He will join the club as a coach and continue to develop his coaching credentials in preparation for a potential managerial career.
The 33-year-old is the Manchester United and England's all-time record goalscorer, scoring 53 times in 120 appearances for his country.
Rooney said: "I am very excited about the opportunity that Derby County have provided me with.
"I am sure I can make a big contribution and can't wait to meet everyone, especially the supporters.
"I am equally excited to begin my coaching career at Derby County working with both the first team and Academy."
Rooney scored 253 goals for United, in 559 appearances, which made him their all-time record goal-scorer and also regularly wore the captain's armband.
He lifted the Premier League trophy five times during his time at Old Trafford, as well as the FA Cup once and the EFL Cup on three occasions.
He was also a Champions League winner in 2007-08, as well as winning the Europa League during 2016-17 in his final season at Old Trafford.
