Jesus receives 2-month int´l ban

Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus has been banned from international football for two months for improper conduct in last month's Copa America final, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said on Wednesday.

The Manchester City player was also fined 30,000 U.S. dollars for breaching the organization's disciplinary code, according to a CONMEBOL statement.

Jesus was dismissed in the 70th minute of Brazil's title-clinching 3-1 victory over Peru at Rio's Maracana stadium after referee Roberto Tobar showed him a second yellow card for a high tackle on Carlos Zambrano.

As he was leaving the pitch, the 22-year-old punched the side of a temporary dugout for match officials before almost pushing over a video assistant referee (VAR) monitor.

Jesus later apologized for his behaviour, telling reporters that he needed to "grow up".

The Brazilian Football Confederation was also fined 15,000 dollars for a disciplinary infraction, the details of which were not disclosed.

The penalties came less than a week after CONMEBOL suspended Lionel Messi for three months after the Argentine captain accused Copa America organizers of corruption.
