Real Madrid's long injury list grew longer on Thursday when the club confirmed that Croatian international midfielder Luka Modric has suffered a torn muscle in his groin.
"Following the tests carried out today on our player Luka Modric by Real Madrid's medical department, he has been diagnosed with a muscular injury to the adductor in his right leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed," reads the statement on the Real Madrid website.
Modric played for Croatia on Monday in their Euro 2020 qualifying tie in Azerbaijan on what was his 34th birthday and missed Wednesday's training session back in Madrid.
Real Madrid has suffered a plague of injuries during the summer and to the start to the campaign with Marco Asensio, out for most of the season after damaging knee ligaments. Meanwhile, muscle problems have also affected Ferland Mendy, James Rodriguez, Isco, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, raising questions about the club's training regime.
Real Madrid has not given a date for Modric's return, but with a busy month of September which includes Liga Santander games away to Sevilla and Atletico Madrid and a Champions League tie away to Paris Saint Germain next week, coach Zinedine Zidane will need him to be available as soon as possible.
