Canada were crowned the Olympic women's football champions after they triumphed 3-2 on penalties following a dramatic shootout with Sweden in Yokohama, reported Xinhua.
Caroline Seger fired over the bar when scoring would have won it for Sweden, allowing Deanne Rose to net and keep the Canadians alive at 2-2.
Jonna Andersson then saw an effort saved, allowing Julia Grosso to win it for Canada in sudden death.
Both sides were unsuccessful with three penalties in a row during the shootout.
120 minutes weren't enough to separate these two sides as the second period of extra-time finished 1-1.
The United States beat Australia 4-3 on Thursday in the bronze medal game.
