Algerian cyclist Azzedine Lagab will compete in the Germany Tour from Thursday after being caught up in a racism scandal involving German official Patrick Moster at the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo, reported dpa.

Lagab will race for the Bike Aid team at the multi-stage event, organizers confirmed to dpa.

Moster, sport director at the German cycling federation (BDR), was sent home from the Games for encouraging his rider Nikias Arndt to "get the camel drivers," as he pursued Lagab and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier of Eritrea.

The governing UCI then banned Moster for the rest of the year.

Bike Aid said the move to include Lagab, and Eritrean national champion Dawit Yemane in the race was a statement against racism.
