Hertha beat newcomers Bochum to reap first points in Bundesliga

Hertha Berlin moved 3-1 past newly-promoted Bochum after Suat Serdar was on target twice, helping the "Old Lady" to snatch all three points on the road at the close of the 4th round in Bundesliga on Sunday,reported Xinhua.

After three defeats in row an unsettled Berlin handed over control from the starting whistle and let the hosts do the work.

Bochum made efforts but had to wait until the 19th minute before Simon Zoller headed on target following a cross from Elvis Rexhbecaj to produce the game's first chance.

However, the first goal at the other end of the pitch, and against the flow of the game, as Serdar had all time and space following a counterattack to beat Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Rietmann into the bottom right from inside the box in the 37th minute.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts as Serdar made it two just before the break after Bochum failed to clear a throw-in, allowing Serdar to reap his brace from a tight angle in the 43rd minute.

Bochum pressed frenetically after the restart, but the newly-promoted outfit remained sloppy with its chances in the final third.

The hosts eventually got rewarded for their efforts at the hour mark when Zoller benefitted on a parried shot to beat Berlin goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow from close range, halving the deficit.

Bochum gained momentum and pressed Hertha on the back foot but the visitors from the capital staged a clinical chance conversion and stunned the hosts once again against the run of the game as new arrival Myziane Maolida finished off Vladimir Darida's through ball to kill the game with his debut goal in the 78th minute.

"I am proud of the team. The result is satisfying, and we were very effective today," said Hertha Berlin head coach Pal Dardai.

With the result, Hertha Berlin ended its losing streak and climb to the 16th spot meanwhile Bochum slip to 13th place in the Bundesliga standings.

Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt missed the chance to secure its first win under coach Oliver Glasner as Stuttgart's Omar Marmoush cancelled out Filip Kostic's opener to share the spoils and Monchengladbach edged Arminia Bielefeld 3-1 on the second-half goals from Lars Stindl and Denis Zakaria.
