FC Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto will undergo a surgery in Finland to treat a hamstring injury to be carried out by Dr Lasse Lempainen.
The team will be without the utility player for around four months after the schedule for the operation it was confirmed on Wednesday, according to news agency Xinhua.
The operation will be carried out in the coming days to cure a problem that has dragged on since the player, who can operate at full back or in midfield, had to go off injured during Barca's defeat to Rayo Vallecano on October 27.
The 29-year-old was originally pronounced fit to return against Espanyol on November 20, but two days later the club informed he had "problems in his right quadricep," and he has not reappeared.
He joins an injury list which currently includes striker Martin Braithwaite and Kun Aguero, who is out of action for at least two more months while investigations are continuing into a possible heart complaint.
Roberto is out of contract with Barca at the end of June and talks are still ongoing over a new contract.
