F1 boss Domenicali plans talks about German GP return

Formula One boss Stefano Domenicali would welcome a return of a German Grand Prix to the Formula One calendar and plans to raise the issue in the country, reported dpa.

Domenicali told the Sport1 portal in a interview published late Sunday there appears limited interest in the country despite having a top team in Mercedes, two drivers in Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher and general motor sport enthusiasm in the country.

"I am disappointed and also sad that we don't have a German Grand Prix at the moment. But I also don't see any real interest from Germany to be part of the calendar again," he said.

Domenicali knows the atmosphere from past German races in Hockenheim and at the Nürburgring from his days as Ferrari boss with seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher of Germany their top star.

The last official German GP at Nürburgring was in 2013 and at Hockenheim in 2019, with financial constraints the main reason why they pulled out.

Domenicali said F1 had so many offers that it could easily stage 30 races a year and that it was "regrettable" that no one from Germany is expressing interest.

He said he would get in contact with promoters and other interested parties in "an open discussion to find out how Formula One can return to Germany.

"And it is not about money. The liquidity is there. It is about getting back the interest Germany should have in Formula One. That is a priority for me," Domenicali said.
