Germany defender Niklas Süle will not renew his contract at Bayern Munich and leave the Bundesliga champions after the season, reported dpa, quoting the Bild paper on Monday.

Bild said that Süle, 26, informed Bayern several weeks ago of his decision.

Süle came to Bayern in 2017 from Hoffenheim. He was sidelined for many months with a severe knee injury he sustained in October 2019.

His contract expires after the season and Süle seems set to follow David Alaba, Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez on free transfers away from Munich.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann said recently that Süle had not accepted a contract renewal offer from the nine-time reigning German champions.

Barcelona, Newcastle and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the centre back.

Possible replacements for Munich include Borussia Mönchengladbach's Denis Zakaria and the Chelsea duo of Antonio Rüdiger und Andreas Christensen. All three are also out of contract after the season.

Bayern have in the past months renewed the contracts of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman long-term.

They also aim to keep Serge Gnabry beyond 2023 while Corentin Tolisso is out of contract in summer, with his future seemingly unclear.
