Figure skater Nolan Seegert is the first German athlete to test positive for the coronavirus at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, the nation's Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) said Wednesday, reported dpa.

Seegert, 29, is isolating in a hotel and is symptom-free, the DOSB said.

The infection almost certainly rules Seegert out of the team competition which begins on Friday, the official opening day of the Games which run to February 20.

Two negative PCR tests, at least 24 hours apart, are required to shorten the 10-day quarantine period for anyone who tests positive in Beijing within the Olympic bubble. After 10 days only one negative PCR test is needed.

Seegert is also entered into the pairs, with partner Minerva Hase, which begins February 18.

A member of the German staff in the Zhangjiakou hub of the Games previously tested positive for the coronavirus.
