Sparv´s flat in Vaasa given to Ukrainian refugee family

Former captain of Finnish national football team Tim Sparv has given his Vaasa´s flat to a Ukrainian family, who took refuge in Finland fleeing their country following Russia´s attack on their country, local and international media reported.

Sparv, who currently lives in the Czech Republic, expressed his desire to give his flat to anyone in need shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February, reported national broadcaster Yle.

Later he gave the flat following a request by a Ukrainian living in Vaasa after the Ukrainian brought his relatives from Poland-Ukraine border, said the report, adding that a Ukrainian mother along with her two sons are living in the apartment now.

"They are really happy and I am also really happy to be able to help in this way," said the Yle reported, quoting Sparv as saying.

Although the Ukrainian sought help from Sparv for few days, the former captain, however, said that there is no time limit for their living as he wants to keep the family stress free at this moment.

Sparv also expressed his willingness to find out a football club in Vaasa for the two boys, if they are interested.

Sparv, who played 84 matches for national team, announced his retirement from professional football career on December 20, 2021.
