Former Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has been named head coach of Athletico Paranaense, the Brazilian Serie A club said on Wednesday, reported Xinhua.
The 73-year-old replaces Fabio Carille, who was sacked after just three weeks in the job following Athletico's 5-0 defeat to The Strongest in the Copa Libertadores group stage on Tuesday.
"Felipao is the new head coach of Athletico," the Curitiba-based club said on social media. "He will be joined by his assistants Carlos Pracidelli and Paulo Turra."
Athletico did not provide details of the contract but local media reported that Scolari agreed to a deal that runs until the end of the year.
The veteran coach has been out of work since parting ways with Gremio last October.
Scolari's 40-year coaching career hit a high point in 2002 when he led a Ronaldo-inspired Brazil to World Cup glory in Japan and South Korea.
He has also had spells in charge of Portugal, Guangzhou Evergrande, Chelsea and Palmeiras, among other teams.
The first fixture of his new tenure will be a home clash against Ceara on Saturday.
