Finland scored their second consecutive victory in the Ice Hockey World Championship 2022 beating Latvia by 2 goals to 1 in Tampere Nokia Arena late Saturday night.

Mikael Granlund scored the winning goal for Finland just about three minutes before ending the tough match and narrowly escaped the Lions from a draw.

Latvia started the game very well and created pressure on the hosts in the first period and took lead after Rudolfs Balcers scored at the ninth minute of the match.

The Lions tried to come back and Sakari Manninen leveled the score at the 31st minute, although the Latvians created some opportunities.

Earlier on Friday, Finland started its 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship journey with an easy victory beating neighbouring Norway by five goals to nil.

Finland will play against USA in their next match on Monday.
