President accords reception to World Champion Lions

President Sauli Niinistö on Friday met with the members of the Finnish Ice Hockey team at his Kultaranta summer residence in Naantali on Friday following the outstanding performances of the Lions in the outgoing Ice Hockey World Championship and Beijing winter Olympic.

Finnish Ice Hockey team became champion in the World Ice Hockey 2022 held in May and Beijing Winter Olympic in February this year.

The players, coaches, managers and members of the gold winning team and representatives of the Ice Hockey Association were present at the meeting with the President.

Speaking on the occasion Niinistö appreciated the Finnish Ice Hockey team for their outstanding permeances and their efforts to bring glory for the country.

“You have set a great example and given great moments to all of us during a difficult spring,” said the president.

The president also thanked head coach of the team Jukka Pertti Juhani Jalonen for his for his strong-minded work in building a successful team and awarded him the Commander's Badge of White Rose.

On May 29, Finland won Ice Hockey World Championship 2022 beating Canada in Tampere Nokia Arena.

Earlier, in February this year, Finland also won gold in the Beijing winter Olympic.
