Germany captain Alexandra Popp - complete with a taped-on moustache - pretended to be Alexander Popp at her press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday's Euro 2022 final against England at Wembley, reported dpa.

Women's football has taken huge strides during the tournament in England, with record attendances and TV viewing figures.

But male professional footballers still get paid much more than their female counterparts and Popp thought she would have a little fun with the press, summing up the relaxed mood in the camp of the record eight-times winners.

"We were just kind of joking around at breakfast this morning and then said we're just going to go for it," the 31-year-old said.

"I already think it fits with the mood in the team."

Popp, who scored twice in the 2-1 semi-final win over France, also wore a black cap to complete the look.

Popp leads the scoring charts on six goals alongside England rival Beth Mead.
