Thomas Müller hopes to recover soon from a third coronavirus infection, but it remains unclear whether the Bayern Munich forward will be back in time for Saturday's big Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund, reported dpa.

Bayern said that Müller and midfielder Joshua Kimmich had tested positive for the Sars-CoV-2 virus on Saturday and were in home isolation, and Müller took to Instagram late in the day.

"The triple, the Covid triple, has come to me. I have to say that I didn't have it on my radar this time around," Müller said in a video.

"I'm doing very well so far. Of course I hope that it stays that way, I'm in good spirits that I can quickly return to the pitch."

Müller tested positive for the first time in February 2021 and again around a year later.

Müller and Kimmich both played in Friday's 4-0 Bundesliga win against Bayer Leverkusen.

That game also saw the return of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Leon Goretzka from coronavirus infections that had made them miss two Germany matches in the Nations League.

Müller and Kimmich are set to miss Tuesday's Champions League game against Viktoria Plzen, with the prestigious game in Dortmund set for four days later.
