Borussia Dortmund returned from Spain on Thursday, hoping that their 4-1 Champions League victory at Sevilla will boost confidence for Saturday's big Bundesliga game against champions Bayern Munich, reported dpa.

Dortmund managed to rebound from a 3-2 league defeat against Cologne on Saturday in Seville after questions were raised again whether they were able to challenge for the top.

And while they were not glorious throughout Wednesday's game and coach Edin Terzic admitted that they "need to improve a few things" he added that in general "we can take away a lot of positives."

Bayern have won the last 10 Bundesliga titles after Dortmund's last top spots in 2011 and 2012. The two heavyweights are two points behind leaders Union Berlin and Freiburg in the Bundesliga where Dortmund have lost the last seven games against Bayern.

Sports director Sebastian Kehl insisted after the Seville game that "we must have a better performance on the weekend in order to beat Bayern Munich," citing a period in the second half after Seville pulled one goal back and had chances to score again.

However, Kehl also named the result "super" and captain Jude Bellingham said the win was "the reaction we wanted to show" after the Cologne game.

"We need to build on that on Saturday. If we play like we did today, we have a good chance of winning on Saturday. Now we need to recover; we have a few days to do that. It'll be a different challenge entirely on Saturday," the England teenager Bellingham said.

Added forward Julian Brandt: "If we work together and give everything, we're capable of coming away with the maximum. We're raring to go for the Bayern game."
