Cologne won 1-0 at Slovacko in their rearranged Europa Conference League game on Friday, giving the Germans hope of keeping their European season alive and eliminating the Czechs, reported dpa.
The game was suspended after seven minutes on Thursday because of fog and action resumed on Friday, with Ondrej Duda's 82nd minute penalty making the difference.
Cologne sit on seven points with Nice and Partizan Belgrade on eight in Group D. Slovacko now cannot progress with only four points.
One round of group matches remain next Thursday when Cologne host Nice and the Czechs head to Serbia.
The permutations are now varied, with the group winners going into the last 16 and the second placed side heading for the play-offs against the third-placed teams from the Europa League.
Cologne want their Bundesliga home game on Sunday against Hoffenheim to be moved to Monday and talks are under way with the German Football League (DFL).
