Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich scored three goals in six minutes and Serge Gnabry got a hat-trick as they thrashed Werder Bremen 6-1 on Tuesday.
The Bavarians suffered a scare after Anthony Jung's effort in the 10th minute cancelled out Jamal Musiala's early opener, and Jiri Pavlenka saved Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's spot-kick in the 17th.
But in just six minutes Gnabry score twice and Leon Goretzka netted one to make it 4-1 for Bayern before the break.
Gnabry completed his hat-trick in the 82nd and Mathys Tel wrapped up matters just two minutes later.
"We had a small crisis, but we believed in our strength. That's why you can now say that we have found a good pace in recent weeks," Goretzka told broadcasters Sat1 referring to Bayern's winless streak of four games earlier this season.
Team-mate Joshua Kimmich said Bremen's first-half was "very spectacular" but added his side "played very purposefully forward and could have scored even more goals."
Bayern top the league with 31 points. Second-placed Freiburg are four points behind and visit RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wolfsburg secured a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund, extending their positive streak of now three consecutive victories in the Bundesliga.
Van de Ven headed it home in the sixth minute after the Dortmund defence was not able to deal with a Maximilian Arnold corner.
It seemed that van de Ven's name would be the only one in the scoreboard, but Wolfsburg avoided late drama when Lukas Nmecha added another goal one minute into stoppage time.
"We could have used the several chances we had, but still I have to say that it was an almost perfect game today," Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac said.
Wolfsburg are now eighth and on the brink of a European place, while Dortmund missed the chance to close the gap to Bayern.
"We would have liked to and maybe it would have been a bit more deserved to go home with a point. But after the bad start, we can't complain," Dortmund coach Edin Terzic said.
In the two other later games, Borussia Mönchengladbach had a possible equalizer ruled out and were defeated 2-1 at lowly Bochum, while Konstantinos Mavropanos' last-minute goal gave VfB Stuttgart a 2-1 win over Hertha Berlin.
Dortmund captain Marco Reus missed another game and his participation at the World Cup is at stake. Germany coach Hansi Flick is to announce his squad for the tournament on Thursday, but the forward is still struggling with pain in his ankle.
"We see how hard he is working for his comeback. Unfortunately, now he has been pushed back again and again, and the pain has been getting worse and worse," Terzic said before the game.
