Finland blow Hungary by 7-1

Defending champion Finland scored a big victory in the Ice Hockey World Championship 2023 as they beat Hungary by seven goals to one at Nokia Arena in Tampere on Friday afternoon.

The Lions clearly dominated over the Hungarians during the whole match, although the last period was magnificent when they scored five goals.

The Hungary built resistance at the initial stage of the match, but it was broken by Mikko Lehtonen at the 13th minute and took the 1-0 lead for the Finns.

Kaapo Kakko widen the gap at 24th minute but Balazs Sebok of Hungary reduced the gap by scoring the lone goal for the team at 27th minute resulting end of the second period 2-1.

But the Finns started to show their champions performance in the third period and Atte Ohtamaa, Teemu Hartikainen, Kasperi Kapanen, Waltteri Merela and Joel Armia scored one goal each to ensure the 7-1 victory for Finland.

The Lions will face Austria in their next match on Saturday.
