Khedira, Wolf set to succeed Völler as Germany team directors

World Cup winner Sami Khedira and Under-20 coach Hannes Wolf are set to take over as Germany team directors after Euro 2024, sources close to the matter have told dpa.
The Sportbuzzer website also reported the news on Friday. The German Football Federation (DFB) has yet to make an announcement.
Oliver Bierhoff left the role, which appoints Germany coaches, runs the academy and manages the non-sporting side of tournaments, after the men's senior team were eliminated from the 2022 World Cup in the group stage for the second straight time.
Former Germany player and coach Rudi Völler was recruited as a temporary replacement and will stay in post until Germany hosts Euro 2024. But he will then return to his retirement and Khedira and Wolf look set to take over in a dual capacity after DFB bosses decided it was too big a job for one person.
The 36-year-old Khedira, a 2014 World Cup winner, would have to leave his advisory role at his former club Vfb Stuttgart to join the DFB and is set to be the public face of the federation.
Wolf, 42, would focus primarily on young players at the DFB and it is unclear if he would stay as Germany's Under-20 men's coach.
According to Sportbuzzer, DFB vice-president and Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke personally lobbied for the promotion of the former youth coach at his club.
