Former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann is to take the job at the Germany national team until their home Euro 2024, the Bild newspaper said on Tuesday, reported dpa.

According to the report, Nagelsmann and the German Football Federation (DFB) have reached an agreement, but a few details are yet to be discussed.

The DFB said that president Bernd Neuendorf and Germany team director Rudi Völler had a first meeting with Nagelsmann on Tuesday.

"We are in good talks," Neuendorf said.

Germany are under pressure to find a new coach after Hansi Flick was sacked on September 10 after poor performances of the team with five games without victory, including four defeats.

Under Flick, Germany also suffered a second consecutive group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Völler took charge for last week's game against France, which Germany won 2-1, but has named it a one-off occasion and he has insisted he's not available for a longer period.

Nagelsmann was dismissed by Bayern in March, but he still has a contract with the German record champions until 2026. However, Bild reported last week that Bayern would waive the transfer fee in case Nagelsmann and the DFB reach an agreement.

In return, the DFB would have to pay 100% of Nagelsmann's salary. Bayern also would not pay their former coach a severance package.

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß also said that the club wouldn't stand in the way of the negotiations.

Germany hope to have a new coach before games on October 14 in Hartford against the United States and three days later in Philadelphia against Mexico.
