Real Madrid on Tuesday confirmed they have reached an agreement with Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr to extend his contract until June 2027, reported Xinhua.

The contract has a release clause of one billion euros, making it virtually impossible for any other club to consider buying the 23-year-old, who joined Real Madrid in July 2018.

Since then, Vinicius has scored 62 goals in 235 appearances, and has won two La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey, as well as the UEFA Super Cup, two Spanish Super Cups and two FIFA World Club Cups.

The Brazilian's new contract means that Madrid have secured the future of one of their most important players, after the departure of Karim Benzema in the summer.

The club are likely to continue their pursuit of French international Kylian Mbappe, but given that Vinicius and Mbappe play in a similar position on the left, the new deal means a key position is nailed down even if the Frenchman doesn't arrive next summer.
