Strange sounds at Euro draw down to 'English sense of humour': Völler

Germany team director Rudi Völler has laughed off the strange noises which interrupted the Euro 2024 draw in Hamburg on Saturday, reported dpa.

"It was the notorious English sense of humour," he told broadcaster Sport1 on Sunday. "It was relatively quiet during the draw. Then something disturbed us."

Some people in the Elbphilharmonie concert hall said the noises sounded sexual.

On Saturday evening, English comedian Daniel Jarvis wrote on X that he was the perpetrator and had manipulated the sound in the auditorium.

"The English are a bit different to the rest of the world," Völler added.

England coach Gareth Southgate had bemoaned the noises as a schoolboy prank.

It was reminiscent of an incident during the broadcast of the FA Cup tie between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers on British TV channel the BBC in January.

Producers later found a mobile phone taped to a chair and Jarvis apparently claimed responsibility.
