Star striker Harry Kane believes Bayern Munich are among the "three top favourites to win" the Champions League, reported dpa.

The England captain has made a remarkable start to life in the Bundesliga but his side are only second in the German top-flight. They sailed though the Champions League group stage however and meet Lazio in the last 16 in February and March.

"As you've seen in recent years, it's not always the best team that wins, it depends on a lot of factors. I always have the feeling that you have to have a run in the Champions League and I hope that we can get the ball rolling against Lazio," he told Monday's Kicker magazine.

But Kane also believes a "hungry" Bayern can overhaul Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen to lift an 12th German title in a row and Kane's first ever senior trophy.

"We have to show that hunger in the coming games, especially at the end of the season, when the really important games are coming up in March and April," he said.

The forward has already scored 22 goals in 16 games in the Bundesliga and is aiming to better Robert Lewandowski's record of 41 goals from 34 games in the 2020-21 season.

"Whoever has set records before you at the club - of course you try to get the best out of yourself, set your own records and break those records," emphasised the 30-year-old.

"It's been a good start for me. And hopefully when we get into March or April, I'll be a bit closer to his records."

Kane also reaffirmed a long-held ambition to one day play as a kicker in American Football, one of his favourite sports.

"I've thought about the NFL and I might want to continue there," he said.
