Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have opened a third overseas office in New York City to boost their marketing activities in the American continent, reported dpa.

Dortmund said on Friday that the opening took place the previous night, with 300 guests from the worlds of politics, business and sport in attendance at the One World Trade Centre.

Dortmund's other offices are in Shanghai and Singapore.

The club has had several pre-season trips to the United States in the past and runs a training academy in Dallas.

The US market is gaining in importance, with the new-look Club World Cup played there next year, and the US then hosting the 2026 World Cup together with Canada and Mexico.

"With a view to the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 Men's World Cup in particular, we are seeing a strong rise in interest in football in this part of the world and are delighted to be able to bring our special story closer to the people there," Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said.

"We currently have high hopes of qualifying for the Club World Cup."

Managing director Carsten Cramer added in general terms: "It is important to have a long-term presence in these markets, with our own employees in place to communicate directly with locals.

"That's why we decided to open another office in New York. Attending to the entire American market from Dortmund would not do justice to this important topic in the long term."
