Former biathlon world champion Franziska Preuß will miss this week's World Cup Finals in Canada due to illness and minor sinus surgery, the German Ski Federation (DSV) said on Tuesday, reported dpa.

It was the latest setback for Preuß who had started strongly into the season but then missed several events due to the coronavirus and other infections.

Preuß, who turned 30 on Monday, had to withdraw from the relay at last month's world championships where Germany claimed the bronze medal, and missed the last two World Cup stops in Oslo and Soldier Hollow, Utah.

The season ends with sprint, pursuit and mass start races between Friday and Sunday in Canmore, Canada.

Last year Preuß also was unable to complete the season as well, missing the home worlds in Oberhof, among other events.

"Now I am really mentally strong, looking positive to the future and I am looking forward to turn the focus to training and preparing for the new season," Preuß said in Tuesday's statement.
