Edinson Cavani struck his fifth league goal in as many games as Boca Juniors boosted their playoff hopes with a 2-1 home win over San Lorenzo in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday, reported Xinhua.

Adam Bareiro gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot in the ninth minute after Cristian Lema brought down Adam Bareiro.

Cavani equalized on the stroke of halftime by angling a low shot into the far corner after a slick one-touch pass from Cristian Medina.

The hosts went ahead six minutes from time when Miguel Merentiel fired home from close range after fine build-up play by Kevin Zenon.

Boca is now fourth in Group B with 19 points from 11 games, four points behind leader Lanus with two matchdays remaining. San Lorenzo is ninth, four points further back.

The top four sides from each of the Primera Division's two groups will advance to the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Racing Club won 3-1 at Central Cordoba and Talleres Cordoba edged to a 1-0 home victory over Velez Sarsfield.
