Karlos Nasar of Bulgaria won two golds in the men's 89kg category at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup on Saturday, reported Xinhua.

Yeison Lopez of Columbia won the snatch event with a world record of 182kg, beating Nasar by 1kg. But the Bulgarian weightlifter lifted 215kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 396kg to bag the other two golds.

It was a dismal night for the Chinese team. Li Dayin, who broke world records of the category in the snatch and in total in the Asian Championships last year, finished with 173kg in the snatch and 210kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 383kg. He won two bronze medals in the stanch and in total.

The other Chinese weightlifter Tian Tao only succeeded in his first attempt to lift 171kg in the snatch. In his last bid, he attempted a world record-breaking 226kg twice in the clean and jerk but both failed.

The IWF World Cup in Phuket runs until April 11 and serves as a qualifying event for Paris 2024.
