Former Brazil captain Thiago Silva said Friday that he remains motivated to win trophies after securing his return to boyhood club Fluminense, reported Xinhua.

Silva faced the media for the first time since parting ways with Chelsea to sign a two-year deal with the Rio de Janeiro outfit.

"I didn't come to play around or go on a holiday," Silva told a news conference. "If I had wanted a vacation, I would have stayed in Europe, where my family is.

"Here, I will continue to show the commitment that I have always had in my career, and even more. Because I know the expectation that people have and I will try to live up to that on pitch."

Silva will only be free to play for the reigning Copa Libertadores champions when Brazil's winter transfer window opens on July 10.

The 39-year-old began his youth career at Fluminense in 1998 and made 97 first-team appearances for the club from 2006 to 2008.

"Many people have asked me why I didn't come back earlier, but it just wasn't the right time," the central defender said.

"I honored my commitment with Chelsea, which was to see out my contract, and now I'm ready for this new challenge."
