It has been an incredible year for Aitana Bonmati, with the FC Barcelona player leading Spain to victories in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and the UEFA Nations League, while her club also won the UEFA Champions League, reported Xinhua.
Bonmati was named best player at the World Cup, and now has the chance to cap an incredible 12 months by winning an Olympic gold medal with team Spain at the Paris Olympics.
"Winning the Games would be incredible," she said. "It's really important, not just for football, but for the world of sports in general."
The 26-year-old acknowledged that Spain would be under pressure in France, as "a lot of people will certainly see us as favorites," but she noted that after a long season, victory should not be taken for granted in a group that contains Nigeria, Brazil and Japan.
"It's a bit different as a tournament. You have a lot of games against great rivals in very few days, so it's going to be complicated, although we are very ambitious and will go for gold," Bonmati said, adding that the team has constantly improved over the past 12 months.
"We have been several years playing a lot of games and winning them. That makes you better and stronger as a team," she added.
