Borussia Mönchengladbach overcame an early hiccup in a 3-1 comeback victory at third-division Aue on Saturday that sent them into the second round of the German Cup, reported dpa.

Aue stunned their Bundesliga opponents with an eighth minute lead from Mika Clausen's volley but the visitors were level from Franck Honorat's overhead kick in the 35th.

Julian Weigl's penalty was saved by Aue goalkeeper Martin Männel, and Kevin Stöger hit the post, but Luca Netz' shot into the far corner in the 52nd and a low drive from Alassane Plea in the 70th clinched matters for triple Cup winners Gladbach.

RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund were among teams playing later in the day, while the first-round games of title holders and Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart have been postponed because they contest the German Super Cup on Saturday night.

Record Cup winners Bayern Munich advanced on Friday 4-0 at second-division Ulm, with Hoffenheim, Mainz and promoted St Pauli Hamburg also through from the top flight.
