Carlo Nenast of Germany claimed victory at the 39th Budapest Marathon, crossing the finish line in 2 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds on Sunday, reported Xinhua.

Local runners Mate Vasarhelyi and Peter Jenkei finished second and third respectively.

In the women's category, Hungary's Agnes Szonja Garai emerged as the winner in 2:54:46. She outpaced Belgium's Helen Dassy, who took second place, while fellow Hungarian Eva Margit Kovacs completed the podium in third.

The marathon attracted a mix of international and local participants, with Sunday's run taking place under shifting skies - alternating between sunshine and clouds - and temperatures hovering around 15 degrees Celsius.

According to the organizers, around 30,000 participants from 110 countries and regions took part in the event over the weekend. Participants chose from eight different running distances, four city tours, or a 2.3km walk.

Additionally, an inclusion run welcomed people with disabilities, who completed the 500-meter distance alongside their helpers.

Some 6,400 runners took part in Sunday's marathon.
