The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Thursday accepted the petition of La Liga to postpone all of the weekend matches involving clubs from the region of Valencia, which has been affected by devastating floods that have so-far claimed 104 lives, reported Xinhua.
The top flight games between Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano, Valencia and Real Madrid, and the second division matches between Levante and Malaga, Castellon versus Racing Santander and Eldense against Huesca, have all been postponed until a later date.
The RFEF confirmed the news in a communique saying they had "agreed on Thursday to postpone the matches that were due to be played this weekend in the Comunidad Valencia, which has been gravely affected by the DANA (the weather phenomenon which provoked the torrential rain and flooding) and which has claimed so many lives and caused damage by flooding."
The RFEF added that all semi-professional and women's league matches in the region have also been postponed.
Nearly all of Spain's football clubs on Wednesday posted messages on social media expressing their sympathy and offering condolences to the flood victims, with Real Madrid posting of the club's "deep consternation and solidarity" with those affected.
