Former three-time grand slam champion Angelique Kerber has reiterated that she wants to remain involved in tennis and has had first talks with the German Tennis Federation (DTB), reported dpa.

"The DTB has approached me," Kerber told broadcasters ZDF on Saturday night. "I believe that there is a future there. I definitely want to remain involved in tennis."

Kerber, 36, said she would like to share the experience from her own career with youngsters and a new generation of players.

Former world number one Kerber won the Australian Open and US Open in 2016, and Wimbledon in 2018. She retired after this year's Paris Olympics where she reached the quarter-finals.

Kerber now dedicates her time to two-year-old daughter Liana, her family and friends. She said she has adapted well to her new life, and it helped her transition that she spoke with several other players who have retired.

Kerber added that she doesn't miss the training grind but the competition, saying: "I loved being on court and to fight for victory or defeat."
