The City of Helsinki submitted an application for a summons to the Helsinki District Court on October 30 related to unpaid rental payments on the land lease for the Ilmala arena, said the city in a press release on Monday.

Submitting the application for a summons is in accordance with the city's normal procedure in a situation where a tenant's land lease rental payments have not been paid.

Helsinki Halli Oy has not paid rent on the land it has leased from the city since July 1, 2024 and the total arrears is now about EUR 212,000.

The city has sent a threat-of-cancellation payment reminder for the unpaid rent on September 19.

Since the outstanding payments are still unpaid, the city demands that the lease be terminated.

The large arena in Helsinki’s district of Ilmala has been closed since the end of February 2022, when Russia started its war of aggression in Ukraine.
