Bayern Munich's rising star Jamal Musiala has set his sights on becoming the world's best footballer, citing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as his inspirations, reported dpa.
In an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland published on Saturday, Musiala said he doesn't want to pressure himself but hopes to have the chance to win the Ballon d'Or one day, just like Messi and Ronaldo.
Musiala is seen as one of the top young talents in German football and is expected to be part of the next generation of global stars.
His strong perfomances have already earned him key roles at both Bayern Munich and with the German national team.
Bayern eyes contract extension as Musiala reflects
Bayern Munich are keen for Musiala to remain with the club for many years and aim to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2026.
Musiala has indicated that he will take time to assess his options, noting that a decision might come soon. "I think we'll know more during the winter break," he said.
Musiala said he aims to stay fit and perform well until he can take time to reflect around the turn of the year.
Legendary German player Lothar Matthäus praised Musiala for his grounded attitude, attributing part of his success to his strong support system, including his family and management.
