The annual Helsinki Save Pond Hockey Tournament will be held on the ice of Brahenkenttäthis Saturday for the consecutive 4th year, said a press release.

Organised by Pond Hockey ry, the goal of the tournament is to unite the global hockey community against climate change by raising awareness and supporting concrete action.

On game day, 28 teams with over 200 players will compete to see who is the pipolätkä champion of Helsinki.

Players and sponsors will help support action against climate change while all registration and sponsorship proceeds will be donated to the Hiilivapaa Suomi campaign against fossil fuel power plants in Finland.

“Climate change is the greatest threat to the future of our planet and the game we love. We as hockey players can already see the changes happening on the ice. Winters are getting warmer and shorter, so we need to connect the dots between the consequences of climate change and the future of winter sports – before it’s too late. Hopefully, the next generation will have the same opportunities,” Steve Baynes, Co-Founder & Helsinki Tournament Manager said.

The Association is successfully spreading its message across Finland. This year, there will be Save Pond Hockey Tournaments in Mikkeli on February 17, Tampere on March 3 and Oulu on March 17.

The Oulu Tournament is the newest addition and will also see over 20 local teams hit the ice to support the cause, the press release added.
