Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer remained suspended for two German Cup games after his appeal was rejected by the German Football Federation (DFB) sports court, reported dpa.
Neuer was suspended earlier this month after receiving a red card in the third round of the Cup against Bayer Leverkusen.
He saw the first red card of his career during the 1-0 defeat for tackling Jeremie Frimpong just outside the box in the 17th minute.
“I tried to run onto the ball. I realized it was going to be a tight situation, I wasn't going to get there,” Neuer said during the 45-minute hearing, describing the scene.
Referee Harm Osmers said he showed Neuer the red card because he prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity, not for rough play.
According to DFB rules, the prevention of an obvious goalscoring opportunity through a non-serious foul without a subsequent goal usually results in a two-match ban.
Neuer's contract with Bayern expires on June 30, 2025. Since Bayern were eliminated, he will only be affected by the ban in case he doesn't decide to end his career after this season.
The goalkeeper retired from the German national team after this summer's Euro 2024 tournament.
