Heliövaara, Patten win men's doubles title in Australian Open

Wimbledon champions Finnish Harri Heliövaara and British Henry Patten claimed the men's doubles title in Australian Open on Saturday.

Heliövaara and Patten came from behind to edge third seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori by 6-7 (16), 7-6 (5), 6-3 in the final.

Heliövaara 35 and Patten 28, who teamed up just nine months ago, celebrated their second Grand Slam triumph with in a span of six months.

Although they missed 10 set points in an epic 34-point first-set tie-break against the Italians, the Finn and Briton fought back in the second set and finally won after more than three hours on court.

Meanwhile, President Alexander Stubb congratulated the winners after claiming the men's doubles title in Australian Open.

“Congratulations Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten for winning the doubles at the Australian Open. Well done. Finnish-British cooperation works,” Stubb wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
