Bayern Munich have renewed the contract of key attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala by four years until 2030, the Bundesliga leaders said on Friday, reported dpa.
The news came the day before their top of the table clash at reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen.
German international Musiala, 21, joined Bayern in 2019 from Chelsea's academy and made his first team debut in May 2020.
Musiala has since developed into a key player for club and country, playing 193 matches for Bayern with 58 goals and 31 assists, and 38 Germany games with seven goals.
Renewing Musiala's contract was a priority as board member for sport Max Eberl said in a club statement that Musiala is "shaping the present at Bayern and will also shape the future, is the face of our new generation.
"In Jamal we’ve managed to convince one of the most coveted players in the world of our long-term plan at Bayern. Players like him allow us to send out a clear message to everyone that Bayern are to be reckoned with in the future as well.”
Sporting director Christoph Freund said that Musiala "always creates genius solutions with his outstanding ability on the pitch. That’s his gift."
Musiala said: “I’m really happy. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I took my first steps in professional football here and firmly believe we can achieve something big with this club in the coming years.
"I feel at home both in Munich and at the club with our great fans. We’ve got a lot of things we want to achieve. I’m excited for everything that’s to come.”
Musiala is the latest player to renew his contract at Bayern, following the likes of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and full back Alphonso Davies. Bayern also hope to keep midfielder Joshua Kimmich beyond the season.
