Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno was the hero for his side, making two crucial saves in a penalty shootout to eliminate FA Cup holder Manchester United from the tournament, reported Xinhua.
The defeat dealt another blow to Ruben Amorim's team, which now travels to play Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday, its only remaining hope for silverware this season.
Calvin Bassey put Fulham ahead in first-half injury time, capitalizing on United's poor defense of a cross from the right. Bruno Fernandes equalized in the 71st minute with a smart left-foot finish.
Neither side managed to score again during regular or extra time on Sunday. In the penalty shootout, Leno saved efforts from Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee, while Fulham's players converted all their spot kicks to secure victory.
Newcastle United's hopes of reaching two cup finals in the same season were dashed by Danny Welbeck's extra-time goal, giving Brighton a 2-1 win at St James' Park.
Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Newcastle with a 22nd-minute penalty, but Brighton equalized just before halftime through Yankuba Minteh.
Both teams were reduced to 10 men in the second half, with Anthony Gordon sent off for Newcastle in the 83rd minute and Tariq Lamptey dismissed during added time.
Gordon's red card means he will miss the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, adding to Newcastle's disappointment.
