Peru defeated Australia 2-0 in their final group match at the World Cup in Russia on Tuesday, but both teams have been knocked out of the tournament.

Peru, already being eliminated from the World Cup ahead of the final match, opened the scoring first in the 18th minute when Andre Carrillo struck a superb volley.

Australia, who must win the last group match to have a chance of advancing to the knockout stage, hardly caused real threat to Peru's defense throughout the match.

Peru's attack was still on fire in the second half when captain Paolo Guerrero scored in the 50th minute to give his team a 2-0 lead.

France, who have already secured the last 16 berth and rested several starters, were held to a 0-0 draw by Denmark in the other match of Group C.

France finished top of Group C with two wins and one draw, followed by Denmark in the second place.
