Egyptian-born Liverpool soccer star Mohamed Salah was named on Tuesday as one of the 10 nominees for "The Best FIFA Men's Player 2018".

The world soccer governing body FIFA released an official shortlist of 10 footballers nominated for the award.

Besides Salah, there are Chelsea's Eden Hazard, Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, England captain Harry Kane, World Cup winners Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Raphael Varane, Golden Ball winner Luka Modric of Croatia, and usual candidates Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah got the nod after showing an outstanding season at Liverpool in the English Premier League and leading the Reds to the European Champions League final versus Real Madrid in late May, where Liverpool lost after Salah's bad injury with a dislocated shoulder early in the match.

Liverpool's legendary forward also scored two goals against Congo in a crucial match last October, booking a seat for Egypt in the World Cup finals it missed for almost three decades.

The Best FIFA Men's Player award is scheduled to be delivered during a ceremony that will be held in London on Sept. 24.

FIFA said that the winner will be determined by votes of fans, journalists and coaches and captains of national teams based on the player's achivements from July 3, 2017 to July 15, 2018.
